This program is aimed at employees and volunteers who work with trauma on a daily basis through their jobs. This group includes Mental Health Providers, Paraprofessionals in Human Services, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and Medical Personnel.
Our goal is to provide tools that can be used at the moment, both on the job and on an on-going basis off the job, to increase the ability to autoregulate emotion and to decrease physiological hyperarousal. These are two aspects of trauma resiliency. These proven tools are borrowed from many different areas in Psychotherapy, gathered into a tool chest, and taught over a specific amount of time to allow participants to experience and practice them and to come back with questions. All of the tools require consistent practice to be of optimal use in a time of crisis, which is why practice is so important.
We suggest 2-hour sessions weekly for an 8-week period to help foster the kind of practice that will have a lasting impact on staff. We tailor the training to best meet your organization’s specific concerns as well as scheduling needs. We are available to present this training on-site at your workplace and can work with varying group sizes.
The resiliency class for health care providers provided me with the tools to recognize when my body and spirit are getting overwhelmed, why my body has responded in this fashion and what to do with that information. Having this information allows me to set boundaries, both professionally and personally, that aline with my values, which increases my capacity for compassion and empathy. This class has helped me feel more empowered and in control of my responses to stressful situations. Kathy is a thoughtful and well informed teacher. I highly recommend this class. – Dr. Kerry S.
