About The Name

About The Name

The Learning Center at Red WillowThe Learning Center at Red Willow

The Learning Center gets the “red willow” portion of its name based on inspiration in the value of the native plant also known as Red Osier Dogwood, American Dogwood or Redstem Dogwood.  Native Peoples had many uses for Red Willow including making dream catchers and baskets.

Red Willow bark is an important herb used during times of ceremony.  It signifies respect, kinship, and connection when used as a part of the mixture for the Sacred Pipe.
