Resilience Through Art for Women Veterans
Cathy Miller is a passionate Art teacher who has taught grades Pre-school thru College in her former home in the Midwest. Along with her 26 year tenure in the classroom she has also designed and been involved in workshops and summer Art programs. She believes that to teach is to touch the future and she strives to present lessons focused on big ideas that are fun and meaningful. She desires to inspire all students by giving them opportunities to voice their concerns as they speak thru their artwork. She has witnessed in her classes how artistically shy insecure students gain confidence in their skills, voice their personal opinions and become more bravely aware of the world in which we live. This occurs by motivating the non-artistic student to unlock their creativity. A trained, but self-taught artist, she believes that if we are properly motivated, have a mentor, and are willing to work, the sky is the limit in artistic development. Her emphasis on creativity in the Art classroom promotes a baseline understanding for students to nurture the development of their own original ideas and to realize that there is a valued place for these ideas in our society. Her personal goals are to use joyful art activities to help students understand how to enrich their own lives by participating and enjoying the Visual Arts with the hopes of causing a rippling effect that is transferred into the lives of others.
